Cape Sharp Tidal in partnership with Open Hydro deployed a 2 megawatt in- stream tidal turbine at Nova Scotia’s Bay of Fundy FORCE test site on November 7, 2016.
On November 8, it was connected to a subsea electrical cable at the FORCE site 10 kilometres from Parrsboro, and according to CBC, started producing electricity right away. The commissioning process began.
The subsea cable (hence the turbine) was officially declared connected to the Nova Scotia electrical grid and was supplying power into the province’s electricity mix on November 22, 2016.
CBC’s Paul Wither’s has a comprehensive story on this deployment.
