Peter Craig, a Nova Scotia Dept. of Energy staffer, announced a new opportunity to generate solar electricity from rooftops of community buildings and sell it to their utility. At a June 8th Halifax city council sustainability committee meeting Craig outlined exactly who is eligible to apply, directed councillors to the novascotia.ca/solar website for further information, and confirmed that the process is not yet open for applications. Then he took questions.
The most popular question he acknowledged is; when will community groups be able to apply? He directed interested groups to work through a downloadable workbook before completing an application.

Solar Nova Scotia has contracted Wayne Groszko to help eligible community groups with their applications. Perhaps the hardest part will be deciding the price per kilowatt hour the group will propose, an essential component their application will hinge on. Not many community groups would have experience with a competitive bidding process to sell any type of electricity, let alone solar.
